Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

There are two types of ADHD that greatly differ from one another: Inattention and Hyperactivity/Impassivity. They can both be diagnosed at the same time, when appropriate, and need to be present before the age of 12.

Inattention Type

For the diagnosis, 6 of the following  9 conditions need to be present and cause a great level of dysfunction for at least half a year.

(1) Makes careless mistakes because of failure to pay attention to details.

(2) Has problems with staying attentive to different things.

(3) Does not listen when spoken to directly due to inattention, more often than what would be considered within norm.

(4) Organizational difficulties such as time management, or task completion.

(5) Many times fails to complete duties (due to lack of focus or poor organizational skills).

(6) Prefers not to engage in activities that demand a certain level of sustained attention (like school work).

(7) Tends to lose material necessary for task completion.

(8) Easily distracted.

(9) Forgetful of daily duties and chores.

 

Hyperactive/Impulsive Type

For the diagnosis, 6 of the following  9 conditions need to be present and cause a great level of dysfunction for at least half a year.

(1) Constant hand or foot movement.

(2) Has A Tendency to leave their seat when inappropriate.

(3) Runs around when inappropriate.

(4) Difficulty engaging in activities that are slow in nature.

(5) Difficulty remaining still for long periods of time.

(6) Has a tendency to talk without restraint.

(7) Difficulty waiting for his/her turn speaking in a conversation.

(8) Difficulty waiting for his/her turn speaking in general.

(9) Impulsively interrupts other people’s doing or conversations.
